2022 Subaru Legacy vs. 2022 Nissan Altima

Performance

  • Regardless of which new Subaru Legacy model you choose, you'll have a leg up on the competition thanks to standard Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive. The system continuously sends power to all four wheels and diverts power to the wheels with the most traction if any slip, providing you with optimal traction and control in any weather conditions and on any terrain. The Nissan Altima lineup comes equipped with standard front-wheel drive, and while all-wheel drive is available on select models, it will cost extra.
  • Both vehicles come equipped with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine that produce 182-horsepower when the Altima is equipped with all-wheel drive. The difference is the design of the engines. The Legacy comes equipped with a Boxer engine that has horizontally opposed pistons rather than vertical pistons which are used in the Altima engine, allowing it to be placed lower in the engine, resulting in a lower center of gravity and better stability.
  • The Subaru Legacy has an available 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 260-horsepower and 277 pounds-feet of torque. The Altima lineup features an available 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that produces 236-horsepower and 267 pounds-feet of torque.
  • The Nissan Altima offers slightly higher fuel economy than the Subaru Legacy does. However, the Legacy offers 18.5 gallons of fuel capacity, while the Nissan Altima offers 16.2 gallons of fuel capacity, allowing you to travel further on a full tank of gas in the Subaru Legacy.

Size

  • The new Subaru Legacy models offer more space for you and your passengers, with 105.5 cubic feet of passenger volume. The new Nissan Altima models offer 98.8 cubic feet of passenger volume.

Technology Features

  • Both the Subaru Legacy and Nissan Altima models come with a standard infotainment system on a 7-inch touchscreen display. If you choose any Legacy model besides the base model, you'll get a larger 11.6-inch vertical touchscreen display. The Nissan Altima lineup features an 8-inch touchscreen as its largest option.
  • All Legacy models have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility integrated into the infotainment system. The new Nissan Altima lineup also features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, but it doesn't come standard on the base model.

Safety Features

  • Both vehicles come equipped with a suite of driver assistance features, including automatic emergency braking, and lane departure warning. However, Subaru Legacy models come with standard safety features that don't come standard on Altima models, including adaptive cruise control and LED steering responsive headlights that turn with the wheel to give you better visibility when turning corners.
