That's why we've created this comparison page to provide you with pros and cons of the new 2019 Subaru Outback and the 2019 VW Passat. We're clearly rooting for the Subaru Outback, but the VW manufacturer offers some strong selling points too! Before we jump into the details we should mention that we're happy to discuss all things car related here at our dealership. That's why drivers near Bethlehem and Allentown keep coming back. Powertrains and Performance

The Subaru Outback features two engines to the VW Passat's one. Right out of the gates, you have a bit more versatility with the Subaru Outback SUV. The model offers the standard 2.5-liter DOHC engine capable of generating 175 horsepower and 174 pound-feet of torque which is about on par with the standard 2.0-liter turbocharged TSI engine which comes standard in the VW Passat which produces 174 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque.

The top-tier 3.6-liter DOHC engine available on the Subaru Outback 3.6R Limited trim features an impressive 256 horsepower and 247 pound-feet of torque.

The VW Passat has the Subaru Outback beat efficiency-wise, although only slightly. The sedan is capable of reaching 36 highway mpg over the 32 highway mpg rating that's offered by the Subaru Outback.

Capability isn't everything in a vehicle. But it certainly counts for something! Get the legendary and world renowned capabilities of the Subaru brand in the new Outback. Every model comes standard with Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and 8.7 inches of ground clearance to get you to your destination no matter the terrain and rough conditions on the road. The X-MODE technology further improves the rugged capabilities of this SUV by reducing and stopping tire rotation when lack of traction is sensed to provide enhanced grip on muddy and icy surfaces. With all-weather capability already built into every model, it's hard to imagine a vehicle that can compete!

Those residents near Leigh County and Northampton County won't find any All-Wheel-Drive options in the new VW Passat. While its Front-Wheel-Drive configuration might make for some impressive efficiency ratings, the sedan doesn't have the same grit and versatility the Subaru Outback offers as an All-Wheel-Drive SUV.

Interior Space

If you're interested in learning more about SUVs then you're certainly in need of a vehicle with a roomy interior. The Subaru Outback delivers once more in this field with 108.1 cubic feet of passenger space and 73.3 cubic feet of storage. The VW Passat features 15.9 cubic feet of cargo capacity which isn't bad for a sedan, but can't really compete with the vast amount of space in the Subaru Outback.

Safety Features

Both vehicles feature advanced life-saving technologies to help prevent collisions and mitigate the potential damage if they do occur.

The Subaru Outback features the standard Subaru EyeSight Driver Assist Technology which includes EyeSight Adaptive Cruise Control, EyeSight Lane Keep Assist and Sway Warning, Pre-Collision Braking, and a Pre-Collision Throttle Management system to help keep you and your passengers safe on the roads near Bucks County, PA. The VW Passat is also hailed for its safety and features an Automatic Post-Collision Braking System, Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and seven stability-enhancing technologies and systems. You really can't go wrong with either vehicle!

Technology and Luxury

Once again, the Subaru Outback has the VW Passat beat. The Subaru SUV offers available genuine Java Brown leather upholstery while the VW Passat features V-Tex leatherette seating. While the latter is comfortable, it really can't match up with the lush and forgiving genuine leather seating featured in the Subaru Outback.

Technology wise the Subaru Outback features the standard SUBARU STARLINK Multimedia system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration. The VW Passat also features these technologies. Both also have user-friendly touch screen interfaces with which to navigate through content.

Trim Levels

Looking for customization? The Subaru Outback features six available trims to select from. With a variety of price points we're certain you'll be able to find the model that best suits what you seek from your SUV.

The VW Passat only features two available trims, so you're fairly limited in your selection.

How Do the Vehicles Stack Up?

Pick up the Subaru Outback if you're looking for a well-rounded, easily-tailored, sleek, safe, and comfortable vehicle!
